IPL Skin Rejuvenation- for sun damaged skin

Sun-damaged Skin: While the trauma of ageing skin is nowhere near as great as for vascular or pigmented lesions, the simple fact remains that most people do not like the thought of ageing. Exposure to the sun accelerates the ageing process of the skin, and can cause disruption in the normal blood supply to the skin (which results in vascular disorders such as telangiectasias or diffuse redness) It can also cause irregular pigmentation that shows as freckles (ephelides) or age-spots (solar lentigines), and irregular pore size. I- Light 3 offer clinically proven treatment sun-damaged skin, covering both vascular and pigmented aspects.

Alternatives for Sun-Damaged Skin

Make-up: This is simple, painless and relatively inexpensive, but it is only a cover-up and requires an everlasting commitment to maintain the appearance desired by the client.
Surgery: No effective traditional surgical method for treating all the effects of sun-damaged skin exists. Laser surgery (cosmetic resurfacing of the skin) is available but is expensive and recovery time is comparatively long.

How does I- Light 3 Skin Rejuvenation Treatment Work?
I- Light 3 treatment works by directing well-controlled pulses of light into the upper skin layer. The light is absorbed by two of the body’s own natural chemicals – melanin in the pigmented areas and haemoglobin in the red blood.

Both these pigments convert the light energy into heat. This heat is used to destroy the parts of the cells in which the melanin is stored, and to damage the walls of the vessels supplying blood to the areas where vascular damage is seen. This technique has the name “Selective Photothermolysis”.

The visible light produced by the I- Light 3 systems are carefully controlled to produce the correct pulse length and right amount of energy to destroy the targets without damaging surrounding tissues.

The I- Light 3 Skin Rejuvenation system will treat diffuse redness and pigmented disorders caused by sun-damage and also improve the skin texture.

The I-Light 3Photo Rejuvenation procedure will additionally treat larger (individually visible vessels) telangiectasias.

Both Photo Rejuvenation and Skin Rejuvenation are quick and simple procedures that do not interfere with your normal daily routine. Both are aimed at repairing sun-damage found on the face, neck chest and hands.

Is it suitable for all skin tones?
The skin rejuvenation is based on light absorption in melanin and haemoglobin, therefore treatments are more effective on light skin that is not sun tanned at the time of treatment. However, I- Light 3 has pre-programmed settings for each treatment so all skin tones can ensure they will receive the correct energy output for their complexion.

Age spots contain a substance called melanin, and diffuse redness contains a substance called haemoglobin. When cells containing lots of these substances are targeted with the IPL light, they disappear almost immediately.

How long does an I- Light 3 treatment take?
The glass prism within the I- Light 3 applicator that guides the light to the skin is 10mm by 48mm, so a large area can be targeted in one flash of light. A full-face treatment takes less than 20 minutes. You should expect a total of 1-4 treatments before you obtain the desired results.

Does it hurt?
Tolerance of pain is very individual from person to person. No anaesthetics are required, and many patients describe the discomfort as a warming sensation similar to the feeling one has after a day on the beach. The lighter the skin colour, the less pain.

Do I need to take special precautions before and after treatment?
The light used is completely safe, visible light. Potentially harmful wavelengths are removed by the unique I- Light 3 Dual Mode Filtering system. Since tanning takes place by accumulation of pigment (melanin) in the skin, it is, however, important to avoid tanning (sun, solarium or self-tanning cream) before and during the treatment period. Otherwise your tanned skin will absorb more light, which makes treatment less effective. Generally, no post-treatment care is necessary. But people with sensitive skin may benefit from applying an ice pack to the face immediately after treatment or applying an ointment prescribed by the doctor. Furthermore, it is recommended to use a sunscreen (minimum SPF 60) for a few weeks following treatment.

What can I expect?
You may notice that the skin looks a little “dirty” for a few days following treatment. After that you will find that your skin looks smoother and fresher. You might choose to have 1 – 2 annual maintenance treatments in order to keep your youthful appearance.

How can I be sure I- Light 3 is safe and effective?
Clinical trials documenting I- Light 3 safety and effectiveness are carried out by leading doctors prior to the release of the product. The results of these tests are then published in respected, refereed medical journals. The settings used for your treatment will be based on the settings recommended by the clinicians who carried out the clinical trials.
